Former Ohio Hi-Point/Indian Lake FFA Advisor and Agriculture Instructor, Tanner Schoen, was sentenced in a full Logan County courtroom Wednesday morning.
Schoen will serve 48 months in prison effective immediately and will serve five years post-release control.
He was also ordered to pay court costs.
Schoen will be classified as a Tier III sex offender for the rest of his life.
Schoen read this statement in the courtroom:
In January, Schoen pleaded guilty to three counts of Sexual Battery, felonies of the third degree.
Each count of Sexual battery held a maximum prison sentence of up to 5 years and a fine of up to $10,000.
In July of 2023, the Logan County Grand Jury indicted Schoen on several charges.
Schoen was charged with 10 counts of Sexual Battery and 1 count of Rape.
Dates of the charges range from August 19, 2020, through May 24, 2023.
At that time Schoen entered a plea of not guilty to all charges.
One victim is listed in this case.
The Logan County Sheriff’s Office began investigating Schoen in mid-June of 2023 after they were contacted by school officials regarding an inappropriate relationship with a student.
Schoen’s attorneys were Marc S. Tripplett and Tina McFall.
Retired Marion County Judge William Finnegan presided over the case.
Logan County Prosecutor Eric Stewart had these comments to say after the sentencing. “It’s important for the community to know that there are consequences for their actions. They can be quite severe. This was a huge violation of trust for the community. Parents send their kids to school, expecting them to get an education, not have something like this happen. This will have lifelong consequences.”
Schoen left the courtroom in handcuffs and was transported to the Logan County Jail by the Logan County Sheriff’s Department.
