American Honda reported strong sales growth in May, driven by demand for affordable, fuel-efficient vehicles and a record number of hybrid sales.
The company announced Tuesday that total May sales increased nearly 10 percent compared to the same month last year, with 148,903 vehicles sold. Year-to-date sales stand at more than 623,000 vehicles.
Honda brand sales climbed 10.5 percent in May, led by strong demand for passenger cars and SUVs.
Passenger car sales topped 46,000 units, marking Honda’s best month for car sales in five years.
The Honda Civic led the way with nearly 27,000 units sold, while Accord sales reached more than 18,600 vehicles.
The newly redesigned Honda Prelude also continued its rollout, adding more than 300 sales during the month.
Hybrid vehicles were a major contributor to Honda’s success.
The automaker sold a record 42,583 hybrid-electric vehicles in May, setting a new monthly sales mark.
Hybrid versions of the CR-V, Accord, and Civic all posted strong results, with more than half of all CR-V sales coming from hybrid models.
Honda’s SUV lineup also continued to perform well. The CR-V posted a record May with more than 45,000 sales, while the Passport achieved its best May ever.
The HR-V, Pilot, Odyssey, and Ridgeline also recorded some of their strongest sales months of the year.
Acura, Honda’s luxury division, also saw gains in May. Sales rose more than 4 percent to 13,215 vehicles, making it Acura’s best sales month of 2026 so far.
The Acura MDX led SUV sales, while the all-new ADX crossover posted the best sales month in its history.
The Acura Integra also showed significant growth, with sales jumping 67 percent compared to May 2025.
Company officials credited the strong performance to consumer demand for practical, fuel-efficient vehicles, particularly hybrid models, as buyers continue looking for ways to save on fuel costs while maintaining flexibility and performance.
