Honda is recalling more than 325,000 Odyssey minivans because a defect in the rearview camera could prevent the image from displaying when the vehicle is shifted into reverse, increasing the risk of a crash.
The recall affects certain 2018 through 2020 Honda Odyssey models, including approximately 325,588 vehicles nationwide. According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, water can enter the rearview camera assembly and corrode an internal circuit board, causing the camera image to fail.
Honda says the problem stems from cracks that can develop in the camera housing during manufacturing, allowing moisture to reach the electronic components over time.
The recall includes:
- 112,120 model year 2018 Honda Odyssey vehicles
- 138,594 model year 2019 Honda Odyssey vehicles
- 74,874 model year 2020 Honda Odyssey vehicles
Honda estimates about 0.8 percent of the recalled vehicles are expected to have the defect.
To fix the issue, authorized Honda dealers will replace the rearview camera with an improved unit supplied by a different manufacturer at no cost to owners.
Dealers are expected to be notified beginning July 2, while owner notification letters are scheduled to be mailed beginning around August 24.
Owners can check whether their vehicle is included in the recall by visiting Honda Recall Lookup or by calling Honda customer service at (888) 234-2138.
