UPDATE: Russells Point signed their letter of opposition on Thursday.

The villages of Lakeview and Russells Point held their first council meetings of 2025 earlier this week, and the topic of the proposed Grange Solar project took center stage. The Indian Lake Advocacy Group asked both councils to sign a letter opposing large solar farms in the area.
The Grange Solar project is a proposed 2,600-acre solar farm near Indian Lake, and it has faced strong opposition from local residents, especially the advocacy group. Representatives from Open Road Renewables, the company behind the project, attended the Lakeview meeting, along with members of the advocacy group.
The debate about the solar farm is still heated, with people on both sides of the issue passionately expressing their views. While no action was taken at either council meeting to sign the letter, most of the public comments were against the solar farm.
Russells Point Mayor John Huffam reached out to residents on social media, asking for their feedback on the issue. He posted, “To all Russells Point Residents: As Mayor, I and council have been asked to sign a letter opposing solar farms. I would like to have some feedback from the residents of Russells Point as to your thoughts on this issue.” Most of the responses supported signing the letter.
Wednesday evening, Mayor Elain Fagan-Moore and the Village of Lakeview’s Council signed their letter of opposition. They join local townships, over 600 residents who signed petitions, and many Logan County leaders, including the Logan County Commissioners, in opposing the project. The advocacy group has handed out over 1,200 “No Solar” lawn signs and 225 large plywood signs across the region. Many local businesses also support the cause.
The issue will be discussed again at upcoming council meetings. Russells Point’s next meeting is set for January 20th.
