Longtime Joint Recreation District Trustee Joan Haushalter submitted a letter to District President Pat Ellis, informing him that she will be stepping down when her term expires at the end of January 2025. Haushalter, a six-year member of the Board of Trustees, reflects on her time as a Trustee:
In his report to the Trustees, Bellefontaine Councilman Nick Davis explained that the council has passed several ordinances that will affect pay for Parks Department supervisors and workers. Later in the meeting, the Trustees approved new staff wages for 2025 to reflect the increased wages authorized by the council. Speaking on the financial health of the Parks District, Superintendent Kris Myers said that the district is in excellent financial condition.
In his report, Myers informed the Trustees that boys and girls basketball teams are practicing with games beginning in a few weeks. Overall, he is pleased with the enrollment numbers for both basketball and wrestling, which is still taking sign-ups. The adaptive bowling league is still working out scheduling issues and looks to start after the first of the year.
Myers said he is working on the capital expenditures for 2025, and hopes to have a list to present to the Trustees in January. These projects will address the most critical needs that the district is experiencing.
He informed the Trustees that the log work had been completed on the Myeerah log cabin. Now that the work is completed, the roof can be replaced and he hopes the project will be completed before the end of the year. He reminded the Trustees that the Logan County Land Trust applied for and received grants and donations to cover $15,000 of the roof replacement cost.
Myers also told the Trustees that the Santa Box is back once again. This year, the Parks District has partnered with the Logan County Chamber of Commerce. Myers talks about the Santa Box:
The box will be open to receive letters until December 19th and is located by the Chamber of Commerce office on South Main Street in Bellefontaine.
