Mary Rutan Hospital is expanding access to advanced surgical care with the introduction of robotic-assisted surgery using the da Vinci surgical system, expanding advanced surgical options close to home.
The investment brings sophisticated surgical technology to Mary Rutan Hospital and provides specially trained surgeons with an additional option for performing a variety of general and gynecologic procedures. Robotic-assisted surgeries are currently being performed at the hospital by members of the medical staff who have completed specialized training in the use of the da Vinci system.
“Investing in robotic-assisted surgery is another important step in our ongoing commitment to continuously bring advanced healthcare services and technology to the communities we serve,” said Chad Ross, President and CEO of Mary Rutan Health. “Patients should not have to travel to a larger city to have access to many of today’s advanced surgical options. This investment allows our surgeons to provide another level of care right here at home.”
The da Vinci surgical system is designed to assist surgeons in performing minimally invasive procedures with enhanced precision, visualization, and control. During robotic-assisted surgery, the surgeon remains in complete control of the procedure while using a specialized console to guide the system’s instruments.
Depending on the procedure and individual patient, minimally invasive robotic-assisted surgery may offer benefits such as smaller incisions, less pain, reduced blood loss, shorter hospital stays, and a faster return to normal activities.
At Mary Rutan Hospital, the technology is currently being utilized for select general surgery and gynecologic procedures. Patients and their surgeons determine whether robotic-assisted surgery is an appropriate option based on the patient’s condition and individual needs.
