Indian Lake High School was the epicenter of activity last night as Grange Solar, LLC hosted a public informational meeting on their proposed Grange Solar Grazing Center.
The event drew hundreds of residents keen to learn about and discuss the project.
Grange plans to develop a facility integrating up to 500 megawatts of solar-powered electricity with sheep pasture and grazing across approximately 2,568 acres in Washington, Stokes, Richland, McArthur, and Bloomfield Townships in Logan County.
The project aims to combine renewable energy production with livestock agriculture, enhancing both local energy resources and farming practices.
The facility will feature solar panel arrays, inverters, electric collection infrastructure, access roads, and livestock-related structures, all secured by fencing.
Doug Herling, Vice President of Grange, outlined upcoming steps, including a follow-up meeting in early October.
Attendees had the opportunity to interact with Grange representatives and voice their opinions.
Several community members showed up to the meeting in “No Solar” or red shirts to show their opposition.
Opponents of the project, such as local businessman and Stokes Township Trustee Tim Hart, also shared their concerns.
