Thursday, January 9th, the United States will observe a National Day of Mourning for former President Jimmy Carter, who lived longer than any other U.S. president.

Because of this, many services across the country, including mail delivery, will be paused. The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) has announced that all post offices will be closed, and there will be no regular mail delivery. However, there will still be limited package delivery on that day. Regular mail services will return to normal on Friday, January 10.

President Joe Biden declared January 9 as a day for people to remember and honor Carter. He called on Americans to gather at their places of worship or other respectful places to pay tribute to Carter. He also invited people around the world who share in this loss to join the U.S. in observing the day.

Carter, the 39th president of the U.S., is remembered for his work in peacebuilding, human rights, and helping others around the world.
