On Thursday afternoon, the Logan County Commissioners were on hand for the ribbon cutting of a $4 million addition to the Memory Care Unit at Logan Acres Senior Community. The new addition, which had been in the planning phase since 2019 and slowed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, was the culmination of several agencies’ collaboration.

Logan Acres Administrator Lorraine Fischio said she is thrilled to see the hours of planning and work come to fruition because there is a need for more beds than the facility had. Currently, Logan Acres has 12 beds for Memory Care and has recently had to move some Memory Care residents to the general population because of the lack of space. Fischio said she expects the new beds to be filled as soon as occupancy is granted:

Fischio said that the new wing will enable local residents to have their family members receive care closer to home instead of driving an hour or more to visit them. “This will also give current residents and families additional options when faced with an unexpected change in condition. It has always been our desire to walk alongside the people of Logan County to support their healthcare needs. We are proud of our dedicated team of healthcare professionals who deliver outstanding service and look forward to many more years of providing exceptional patient-centered care for our community members in need.”

As previously reported on PeakofOhio.com, the Logan County Commissioners issued a statement in September of 2023, highlighting the need for the addition: “18 percent of the county population is 65 or older, compared to the state average. There are indicators that this trend will only continue. We know that families do not always take responsibility for their senior family members and guardianship issues continue to escalate in our county. Many senior adults and families face increased challenges in finding answers for adult daycare, transportation, food insecurities, affordable and appropriate housing, isolation, depression, and mental health. All these issues contribute to the need for expansion of services at the Logan Acres to aid in filling these gaps in services for the residents of Logan County.”
