A Bellefontaine woman is accused of firing a gun at her boyfriend during a domestic dispute Sunday afternoon.
Bellefontaine Police were called to a home in the 300 block of Lawrence Street around 4:45 p.m. after a man reported that 40-year-old Crystal Shields had fired a revolver at him while he was sitting in a vehicle outside the home.
When officers arrived, they surrounded the house and ordered Shields to come outside.
While they were waiting, another neighbor called police to report hearing gunshots.
After about nine minutes, Shields came outside and was taken into custody.
According to police, Shields denied shooting at the victim.
She told officers the only time she fired a gun that day was earlier in the morning while practicing at her brother’s house.
She also claimed she had not seen or talked to the victim that day, even though the two live together.
Officers said Shields appeared to be intoxicated.
They reported she smelled strongly of alcohol, had slurred speech, and was emotional.
She later told detectives she had only consumed one alcoholic drink.
Investigators later received a video from the victim that showed Shields sitting on the front porch holding a large silver revolver to her head.
Police said she was wearing the same clothes she had on when officers arrived.
Detectives also found two spots in the ground near the driveway that appeared to be bullet strikes where the victim said he had been sitting.
Shields’ cell phone was found nearby and was taken as evidence.
After getting a search warrant, detectives searched the home and found several firearms inside a gun safe in Shields’ bedroom.
They also found a Ruger .357 Magnum revolver they believe matched the gun seen in the victim’s video.
The revolver was unloaded, but detectives also found four live rounds and two spent shell casings in a kitchen trash can.
According to the report, Shields said she did not know how they got there.
A neighbor told police he heard two gunshots about a minute apart but did not hear anyone arguing beforehand.
Shields was taken to the Logan County Jail and charged with felonious assault, tampering with evidence, using weapons while intoxicated, discharging a firearm, and domestic violence.
