Izaiah Underwood, 24, of West Liberty, has been issued a summons for child endangerment after two toddlers were found walking alone in West Liberty.
Logan County Sheriff’s Deputies were called Tuesday shortly before 5:00 PM to the 100 block of East Newell Street after receiving a complaint about small children wandering in the roadway.
When officers arrived, several neighborhood residents and emergency medical personnel were with the two girls, ages two and three.
Witnesses told officers they spotted the children walking toward U.S. Route 68 without adult supervision and brought them to the EMS building for safety.
An emergency medical worker told officers he went to the children’s residence across the street and called out for a parent through an open door but received no response.
The children’s mother told officers Underwood was supposed to be awake and watching the girls while she went grocery shopping.
She said she had woken him before leaving and sent him text messages reminding him she was going to the store.
When officers spoke with Underwood, he said he did not know why they were speaking with him.
He declined to provide a written statement when asked to explain why he was not watching the children.
Underwood was issued a summons for child endangerment.
He is scheduled to appear in Bellefontaine Municipal Court on Monday, November 2, at 9 a.m.
