Residents in Urbana and North Lewisburg can begin preparing for fall leaf collection, with both communities scheduled to start pickup on Monday, October 26.

The City of Urbana’s Public Works Team will resume leaf pickup on October 26 and continue as weather permits through mid-December. Residents are asked to rake leaves 12 to 18 inches into the street and keep piles at least six feet away from parked vehicles.

Urbana residents should keep walnuts, sticks, brush and other debris out of leaf piles and avoid piling leaves on storm drains. Crews will collect leaves only, and piles containing trash, limbs or garden debris will be left for homeowners to dispose of. Residents are encouraged to take their leaves to the city’s compost facility before collection begins.

The Village of North Lewisburg will also begin curbside leaf collection on Monday, October 26. The program will continue through Monday, November 30, weather permitting.

North Lewisburg residents are reminded that only leaves will be collected curbside, with rocks, trash, debris and sticks prohibited. Residents should also keep storm drains clear. Leaves, brush and sticks may be dropped off at the village’s brush pile next to the bike path.

Residents with questions about North Lewisburg’s program can contact the village at 937-747-3645 or [email protected].

Other communities throughout Champaign County are expected to begin their own leaf collection programs soon as fall cleanup season continues. Residents should watch for announcements from their local municipalities for schedules and collection guidelines.
