Recovery efforts from the March 14th tornado are progressing but are expected to continue for at least two more years, according to Logan County EMA Director Helen Norris.
The Long-Term Recovery (LTR) program has managed 89 cases to date:
– 57 cases have completed their casework.
– 33 cases are awaiting final settlements from FEMA or insurance.
– 24 cases have received assistance and are now closed.
The LTR team is maintaining contact with all affected individuals, including those not directly referred to the program, to address ongoing needs.
In addition to casework, efforts are focused on finding new housing for displaced families.
The Housing Committee is tackling several projects aimed at providing new homes.
However, they face obstacles such as zoning issues, utility installation, and high construction costs, which could affect housing affordability.
A grassroots movement within the county is also working with officials to develop a winter solution for those currently living in campers at seasonal campgrounds.
More details on this initiative are expected by late next week.
The recovery process remains a complex and ongoing challenge, requiring continued collaboration from the community, agencies, and organizations.
