Residents gathered in the Village of Christiansburg on Memorial Day to honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to the United States during the village’s 45th annual Memorial Day observance coordinated by the Christiansburg Fire Company.

Services were held at Smith Cemetery on the east edge of the village, where community members gathered in remembrance of fallen service members. Champaign County Sheriff Chad Burroughs served as the guest speaker for the ceremony, sharing remarks recognizing the sacrifices made by military members and the importance of continuing to honor their legacy. The Graham High School marching Band performed music and a rendition of “Taps” to accompany the ceremony.

Following the cemetery service, the annual Memorial Day parade made its way through the village beginning at 11:30 a.m. The parade featured the Graham High School Marching Band along with area fire departments, including the Rosewood Volunteer Fire Department and the JSP Joint Fire District. Members of the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office also participated, alongside vintage and antique vehicles and other community entries.

Organizers welcomed anyone interested in taking part in the annual tradition, which continues to bring together residents from across the area to remember and recognize those who served.
