The Champaign County Arts Council kicked off its annual Sounds of the Summer concert series over the weekend at Melvin Miller Park in Urbana, drawing music fans together for an evening of live entertainment, local food, and community support.

The event featured performances from Charlie Bonnet III and After Rain, while several local food vendors served attendees throughout the night. Food trucks included New Orleans Grill, Bourbon Chicken, Wilson’s Rollin Shmoke Barbecue, Honey Bee’s D&L Concessions, and Sunshine and Lyds.

The evening began with a welcome message from organizers and recognition of the sponsors who help make the concert series possible.

Opening the show was After Rain, an acoustic folk trio from Springfield made up of a father, daughter, and son-in-law. Known for blending folk, rock, and soul influences, the group entertained the crowd with a mix of original songs and familiar favorites while showcasing a variety of instruments and strong family chemistry on stage.

Headliner Charlie Bonnet III followed with an energetic performance featuring both original music and classic rock hits. Before taking the stage, Bonnet thanked the audience and After Rain for their support, announced the evening’s 50/50 raffle winner, and promised to “rock until he was kicked out of the venue.”

The opening concert provided a strong start to the 2026 Sounds of the Summer series, bringing residents together while highlighting local musicians and businesses.

The next concert in the series is scheduled for Harmon Park in St. Paris and will feature Noah Back.
