Longtime Urbana Police Division officer Robbie Evans has been promoted to the rank of sergeant.
Urbana Director of Administration Spencer Mitchell appointed Evans to the position effective Sunday, November 1.
Evans was officially sworn in by Champaign County Municipal Court Judge Gregory L. Harvey during a ceremony Monday, November 2, attended by family members and fellow officers.
A 1995 graduate of Urbana High School, Evans began his career with the Urbana Police Division in 2005 as a road patrol officer.
In 2023, he was assigned to the division’s Criminal Investigation Unit, where he worked on major investigations involving drugs, thefts, sexual assaults, and other serious crimes.
Police Chief Josh Jacobs praised Evans’ promotion, describing him as a leader within the department who has strong ties to the Urbana community.
“Robbie is a true leader within the Urbana Police Division,” Jacobs said. “Robbie is connected to the Urbana community and understands the community policing approach that we try to serve by.”
During the swearing-in ceremony, Evans thanked his family, past and present mentors, fellow officers, and community members for their support, encouragement, and guidance throughout his law enforcement career.
