A strong but fast-moving storm swept through Champaign County Saturday afternoon, bringing down trees and power lines and keeping emergency crews busy responding to storm-related incidents.

The storm caused widespread power outages across much of the county.

By Sunday morning, utility provider AES reported that power had been restored to approximately 99 percent of affected customers.

The Champaign County Emergency Management Agency is continuing to assess damage from the storm and is working with the National Weather Service to document reports from across the county.

In a statement Saturday evening, the EMA said it has been in contact with the National Weather Service and is collecting information on damage in various locations.

Officials are asking residents who experienced storm damage to submit photos and reports to help with the assessment process.

Damage information can be emailed to [email protected] or shared through the agency’s social media channels, along with the location of the damage.

The information will be forwarded to the National Weather Service as officials continue to gather and evaluate reports from around the county.

Emergency crews responded to numerous calls during and after the storm, with fallen trees and downed power lines creating hazards in several areas.

No major injuries related to the storm had been reported as of Sunday morning.
