The Suicide Prevention Coalition of Logan and Champaign Counties held its annual “Don’t Give Up” Sign Rally Friday afternoon in downtown Urbana as part of September’s Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month.
The rally took place from noon to 1 p.m. in front of the Champaign County Courthouse at the corner of North Main Street and Court Street.
Community members gathered in the downtown area with signs featuring positive, encouraging and supportive messages for people passing by.
The event was organized to bring greater visibility to suicide prevention efforts in the local community and to remind people who may be struggling that they are not alone.
Organizers say the rally also helps highlight the impact suicide has on families, friends and the community as a whole.
The “Don’t Give Up” movement focuses on spreading messages of hope and encouragement while showing people that support is available and that their community cares.
