According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash happened just before 7:20 Thursday night near Mile Post 21.

Troopers say 55-year-old Zoila Lupera, of Elida, was driving a 2012 Ford Explorer westbound when she crossed the right edge line.

Investigators say she overcorrected, sending the SUV across both lanes of traffic before it slammed into the center concrete barrier multiple times.

The vehicle then crossed back over the highway, struck the opposite barrier, and came to rest.

Lupera was flown by MedFlight to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and is listed in stable condition.

Her passenger, 84-year-old Jorge Lupera-Centeno, of Ecuador, was taken by ambulance to Mary Rutan Hospital before being airlifted to Ohio State, where he remains in critical condition.

Troopers say both occupants were wearing seat belts, and impairment is not believed to be a factor.

The crash remains under investigation.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol received assistance from Bellefontaine Fire/EMS, Tri-Valley EMS, Med Flight, and Schaffer’s Towing.
