A traffic stop in Russells Point Wednesday night led to the arrest of a man on OVI charges.
According to the Russells Point Police Department, officers stopped a vehicle on U.S. Route 33 near State Route 708 around 9:40 p.m. after a license plate check showed the registered owner did not have a valid driver’s license.
The driver, 48-year-old Shaun North, did not have a valid driver’s license.
During the stop, officers reported smelling a strong odor of alcohol and observed glossy eyes, slurred speech, and other signs of impairment.
Police also found an unopened bottle of Fireball whiskey on the floor next to the driver’s seat.
According to the report, North refused to fully cooperate with field sobriety testing and was taken into custody.
At the Logan County Jail, he submitted to a breath test that measured 0.270, more than three times Ohio’s legal limit of 0.08.
North was charged with two counts of operating a vehicle under the influence and failure to reinstate his driver’s license.
Police also notified North’s probation officer, who requested that he be held on a probation violation.
This is North’s fourth OVI arrest within the past 10 years.
He remains lodged in the Logan County Jail pending his appearance in Bellefontaine Municipal Court.
