In 2024, the Unified Drug Task Force made important progress in fighting drug-related crimes in Logan County.
The task force carried out 29 search warrants, seized 23 firearms, and handled 111 drug cases involving 51 people.
They also responded to 7 overdose deaths.
The task force seized several drugs, including 228 grams of crack cocaine, 62 grams of fentanyl, and 637 grams of methamphetamine.
They also collected 40,598 unwanted medications through the Lobby Medication Drop Box, helping to keep drugs off the streets.
The task force is made up of 10 officers and deputies from the following departments: Logan County Sheriff’s Office, Adult Parole Authority, Logan County Prosecutor’s Office, Degraff Police Department, Russell’s Point Police Department, Washington Township Police Department, and West Liberty Police Department.
This teamwork allows them to share information and resources to fight the drug problem in Logan County.
Created in 2020, the task force focuses on targeting drug traffickers and couriers bringing illegal drugs into Logan County.
They have had great success in stopping large drug shipments and catching drug dealers, leading to longer prison sentences for many offenders.
Under the leadership of Task Force Commander Sergeant Doug Mitchell, the task force has also been used to handle other serious incidents in the county.
Their efforts have helped make Logan County safer by tackling drug crime and preventing the spread of illegal drugs.
