The Urbana City Council met in regular session Tuesday to discuss the amendment of several ordinances in the city.

The council discussed changes to Chapter 141 of the Codified Ordinances which governs Emergency Medical Technician and Service fees.

The ordinance was last updated in 2019, so updating it would bring costs and fees in alignment with surrounding communities.

Fire Chief Dean Ortlieb said the changes would bring a 10-15% increase in revenue to the city that would equate to approximately $50,000 in additional revenue to the emergency services.

Chapter 1307 was also discussed with changes that were long overdue, according to Mark Feinstein, Law Director and Municipal Prosecutor for the City of Urbana.

The council heard the first reading of Ordinance 4617-25, which would authorize the Engineering Department to move forward with making essential repairs to curbs and gutters on North Main Street between Washington Avenue and Dellinger Road.

Final bids for the project are due March 18th and the project itself should be completed by August.

The council did pass one resolution during the meeting, approving and adopting the Countywide Hazard Mitigation Plan prepared by the Director of the Champaign County Emergency Management Agency.

This is an administrative action that takes place every five years and was already approved by Champaign County.

After all municipalities within the county approve the plan, it will be forwarded for state approval.

The plan was approved unanimously by the city council.

The council will meet again on Tuesday, March 18.
