Urbana man cited for OVI, drug possession following early morning crash

An Urbana man was cited on multiple charges following a single-vehicle crash in Urbana Township early Sunday morning.

According to the Springfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers responded to a property-damage crash just after 4:30 a.m. on June 14 on East Hickory Grove Road, east of Middle Urbana Road in Champaign County.

A preliminary investigation determined that a 2022 Honda Civic operated by Joseph Ward, 34, of Urbana, was traveling on East Hickory Grove Road when the vehicle traveled several hundred feet off the north side of the roadway before striking a ditch.

Ward was not injured in the crash.

Troopers found Ward to be at fault and cited him for failure to maintain reasonable control of a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, and operating a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol and/or drugs (OVI).

The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
