A 24-year-old Zanesville man was arrested early Saturday morning after police found him asleep in his car at a Urbana gas station and determined he was impaired.
According to the Urbana Police Division, officers were called to a home on South Walnut Street around 3:30 a.m. after a woman reported that Jordan Cooper was intoxicated and possibly under the influence of drugs.
The woman told officers that Cooper’s phone location showed he was at the Shell gas station on South U.S. Route 68.
An officer went to the station and found Cooper asleep in the driver’s seat of a 2003 Pontiac.
The keys were in the passenger seat.
When Cooper woke up, he started the vehicle and rolled down the window.
He told officers he had gone to his car to sleep, and eventually drove to the gas station.
Police said they smelled alcohol on Cooper and noticed his eyes were bloodshot and glassy.
Officers then had Cooper perform field sobriety tests.
Police said he showed several signs of impairment during the tests.
Cooper also took a portable breath test, which showed a result of .130, well above the legal limit.
He was arrested on suspicion of OVI and taken to the Urbana Police Division, where he provided a urine sample for testing.
Police also found that Cooper’s driver’s license was under a noncompliance suspension that had been in effect since May 23.
Cooper is charged with OVI, a first-degree misdemeanor, and driving under suspension, an unclassified misdemeanor.
He was then released to a sober driver.
