Over the weekend, local boys basketball teams faced tough competition.
Calvary Christian Spartans fell to Waynesfield Goshen Tigers 61-44 in the consolation game of the Meyers Tavern Tipoff Classic. Philip Davie led the Spartans with 14 points, 9 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 assists. Zeeke Wylie added 10 points and 5 rebounds, while Christian Rogan scored 7 points. Evan Schmidt contributed 6 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals. The Spartans will play again this Friday at Franklin Monroe.
Riverside lost to Botkins 78-57 in the final round of the Botkins Tipoff Tournament. Gavin Osborne led with 17 points and 3 rebounds, followed by Hayden Sanford with 13 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals. Jaxon Woods added 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists, and was named to the all-tournament team.
Benjamin Logan visited Kenton on Saturday and suffered a 55-34 loss. Peyton and Maddox Vermillion each scored 9 points, while Cayden Brown added 7 points. In the JV game, the Raiders lost 40-35, with Diesel Baughman scoring 11 points and Carter Fay contributing 7 points.
