Fort Loramie 11, Triad 0 (5 innings)
The Triad Lady Cardinals saw their season come to an end Monday night, falling 11-0 in five innings to Fort Loramie in OHSAA tournament action.
Fort Loramie used two explosive innings to take control, scoring six runs in the second inning and adding five more in the fourth to secure the run-rule victory. The Lady Redskins capitalized on six Triad errors while totaling seven hits, including a two-run home run in the second inning, and drawing three walks. Despite the final score, only one earned run was charged to Triad pitchers.
Offensively, the Lady Cardinals were limited to just three hits, with Gracie Goehring collecting two and Emma Enochs adding one. Triad had an early scoring opportunity in the second inning after its first two batters reached base, but back-to-back strikeouts and a lineout ended the threat.
Triad finishes the season with a 4-17 record.
Regular Season
Indian Lake 6, Bellefontaine 5
The Indian Lake Lady Lakers completed a dramatic late comeback Monday night, rallying past Bellefontaine 6-5 in the regular season finale.
Bellefontaine struck first after working out of early trouble in the top of the first. Pitcher Joy Fogan stranded runners after Indian Lake put Bre Wisener aboard with a walk and Kyler Carruthers on with a single.
The Chieftains then got their offense rolling in the bottom half. With two on and one out, Fogan drove in the game’s first run on a ground ball to right field before Chloe Heminger followed with a two-run single to center, giving Bellefontaine an early 3-0 advantage.
From there, Fogan controlled the game in the circle while Wisener entered in relief after the first inning and settled in, retiring six of the first seven batters she faced.
Indian Lake slowly chipped away, starting in the fourth inning when Annie Rapp tripled and later scored on a groundout from Brylee Buyer. In the fifth, Wisener drew a walk, stole second, and came home on a two-out single from Izzi Mackesy to cut the Bellefontaine lead to 3-2.
Bellefontaine threatened to extend its lead in the fifth after loading the bases, but Indian Lake intentionally walked Fogan and escaped the jam when Wisener induced a popup from Heminger.
After Bellefontaine stranded two more runners in the sixth, Indian Lake erupted in the top of the seventh.
MacKenzie Miller opened the inning with a single, followed by a Wisener double. Carruthers then launched a three-run home run to straightaway center, flipping the game and giving the Lakers their first lead. Two batters later, Buyer added a solo homer to extend the lead to 6-3.
Bellefontaine mounted one last push in the bottom of the seventh. Ava Dolan led off with a walk before Addison Wical tripled to right to score Dolan. Wical later scored on a sacrifice fly from Fogan to trim the deficit to 6-5, but Wisener closed out the game to preserve the win.
Wisener earned the win in relief, allowing two runs on three hits and six walks while striking out four.
Indian Lake was led offensively by Carruthers, who had two hits including the go-ahead home run and three RBIs, while Buyer also finished with two hits, a home run, and two RBIs.
Bellefontaine was paced by Wical’s 3-for-3 performance, while Fogan and Heminger each drove in two runs.
Indian Lake closes the regular season at 8-15, while Bellefontaine finishes 4-19. Both teams begin tournament play Tuesday, with Indian Lake facing Northridge and Bellefontaine taking on Archbishop Carroll.
Benjamin Logan 5, Pleasant 4 (9 innings)
Benjamin Logan closed its regular season with a dramatic 5-4 nine-inning victory over Pleasant Monday night.
Kylie Harner started in the circle for the Lady Raiders and worked a clean first inning before Benjamin Logan struck first in the bottom half. With two runners aboard and two outs, Brielle Kline stole home for the game’s first run and a 1-0 lead.
Pleasant answered in the second after loading the bases with no outs. A sacrifice fly tied the game before Harner escaped further damage to keep things even.
After several scoreless frames, Pleasant took its first lead in the fourth on a leadoff solo home run.
Benjamin Logan answered immediately in the bottom half, loading the bases with no outs. Rylan Norviel later scored on a passed ball, and Adilynne Gregg crossed home on a wild pitch to give the Raiders a 3-2 lead.
Pleasant responded again in the sixth, using a two-out, two-RBI single to retake the lead at 4-3.
Benjamin Logan tied things in the seventh after Neveah Fogle singled to lead off the inning. A pair of sacrifice bunts from Bryliegh Burnside and Kelsey Jumper advanced Fogle to third, and she later scored on a passed ball to send the game to extras.
Harner worked out of trouble in the eighth, striking out the final two batters after Pleasant put two runners aboard.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the ninth when Jaylyn Parker and Fogle delivered back-to-back singles. After two strikeouts, Kline came through with a walk-off single to center to secure the 5-4 win.
Harner pitched all nine innings, allowing just one earned run on five hits and two walks while striking out 11.
Kline delivered the game-winning RBI, while Norviel and Fogle each collected two hits.
Benjamin Logan finishes the regular season 10-11 and will host Northwestern in a district quarterfinal matchup next week.
Greeneview 7, West Liberty-Salem 5
West Liberty-Salem dropped its regular-season finale Monday night, falling 7-5 to Greeneview.
Olivia Reichardt gave the Tigers an early baserunner with a two-out double in the first, but was stranded.
Greeneview took control early in the bottom of the first, scoring on a sacrifice fly before a Tiger error allowed two more runs to cross, giving the Rams a 3-0 lead.
West Liberty-Salem answered with a big second inning, scoring four runs to take the lead.
Emily King led off with a single and scored on a Kaylee Blair double. Blair later came home on a bunt single by Rhyla Branham. After Britton Carter reached on an error and a sacrifice bunt advanced runners, Kiersten Stoll drove in a run on a sacrifice fly before another Greeneview error allowed the Tigers to take a 4-3 advantage.
Greeneview quickly tied the game on a passed ball in the second before reclaiming control with a three-run third inning. A Tiger error plated the go-ahead run before a two-run single stretched the Rams’ lead to 7-4.
Pitching settled in from there until West Liberty-Salem added one in the sixth. Blair singled to start the inning and later scored on an error off a ball hit by Taylor Cook to cut the deficit to 7-5.
The Tigers put a runner aboard in the seventh when Reichardt singled, but Ashlyn Yeater grounded into a game-ending double play.
Reichardt and Blair each finished with three hits to lead West Liberty-Salem offensively, while Stoll, Blair, and Branham each drove in a run.
West Liberty-Salem finishes the regular season 8-14 and will face Twin Valley South in a district quarterfinal Thursday.
