Several local middle school basketball teams faced off Monday night.
In girls’ action, the Indian Lake 7th grade team suffered a tough 27-7 loss to Bellefontaine. Addison Headings led her team with 4 points, while Teighan Mackesy grabbed 5 rebounds in the game. The 8th grade girls also fell to Bellefontaine, losing 32-19. Claire Tidwell was the top scorer for Indian Lake with 7 points and 8 rebounds. Addison Headings contributed 4 points, while Laura Metzger had 3 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals.
Meanwhile, the Calvary Christian Junior High girls’ basketball team lost a close game to St. John’s Lutheran School, 19-14. Madelyn Carter led the Spartans with 10 points, while Caroline Moore added 4 points. Eden LeCrone had an impressive 4 steals during the game.
In the 8th grade girls’ game, the Lady Chiefs traveled to Indian Lake and defeated the home team 32-17. Mia Brown led the Chiefs with 11 points and 6 rebounds. Lexey Brown contributed 9 points and 6 rebounds, while Paxton Stewart added 8 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists. The Chiefs’ solid defense was also highlighted by Cameo Greene, who had 4 points and 3 steals. The Lady Chiefs will return home Thursday to face Urbana at 4:45 p.m.
The 7th grade Lady Chiefs cruised to a 27-7 victory over Indian Lake. Alexis Hogan scored 10 points to lead the Chiefs, with Kennedy Hairston and Gianna Davis combining for 15 points and 10 rebounds. Annie Gallaway and Brookelyn Oaks played strong defense, while Kylyn Slayback and Samantha Bricker contributed key minutes off the bench. The 7th-grade Chiefs now have a 4-4 record for the season and will host Urbana on Thursday.
In boys’ basketball, the Bellefontaine 7th grade team came out on top, defeating Indian Lake 38-33. Colson Garver led the way for Bellefontaine with 9 points, while Sennett Stolly added 8 points. In the 8th grade game, Bellefontaine triumphed 41-40, thanks to a huge 28-point performance from Tyrin Johnson. Zavion Perez chipped in 9 points in the win.
The Indian Lake 8th grade boys basketball lost by the final score of 41-40 to Bellefontaine. Nixon Lillard led the team in scoring with 15 points. Rush Hurley had 12 points. Kirk Beres scored 6 points. Alex Tussing contributed with 4 points and Reid Roberts completed the scoring with 3 points. They next play at home Thursday night at 5:30 against North Union.
