Additional details have been released regarding the arrest of a Belle Center man over the weekend.
According to a report from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched Saturday to a home on Maple Avenue in Belle Center after receiving a report of a physical altercation.
When deputies arrived, they found the woman sitting in a vehicle outside the home and 36-year-old Cole Wilt standing on the front porch.
The woman told deputies she and Wilt had spent the day riding motorcycles and that he had been drinking.
She said she was trying to leave the residence when Wilt became upset and refused to let her go.
According to the report, the woman told deputies Wilt grabbed her by the throat with both hands and slammed her head into a wall three times.
She also said Wilt prevented her from leaving the home.
The woman told deputies she and Wilt were friends and did not live together.
She said they had only spent time together a few times and that Wilt had encouraged her to search his name online.
After learning about previous charges involving another woman, she said Wilt told her those allegations were false, and she believed him.
Deputies reported noticing redness around the woman’s neck and a cut on her left hand.
She declined medical treatment but provided a written statement and photographs of her injuries.
She also told deputies she wanted to pursue charges.
Wilt told deputies he only put his hands on the woman in an attempt to retrieve a sweatshirt he said she was wearing.
He denied assaulting her and declined to provide a written statement.
Deputies also noted they could smell alcohol on his breath, and Wilt admitted he had been drinking.
Wilt was arrested on a charge of assault.
While being taken into custody, deputies said he repeatedly yelled toward the woman despite being told several times to stop.
Before leaving the scene, deputies honored Wilt’s request to place a protective cone on one of his dogs following a recent surgery and secured the residence before transporting him to the Logan County Jail.
Jail records also show Wilt was arrested on a probation violation.
Court records indicate he has previous arrests that include aggravated menacing and domestic violence.
