West Liberty-Salem Athletics has announced the hiring of new head coaches for both its varsity boys and girls golf programs, welcoming J.J. Martin and Josh Holloway to lead the Tigers on the links.

Martin will take over the girls golf program after serving as head coach at Triad High School for the past two seasons. He also currently serves as the JV softball coach at West Liberty-Salem.

According to school officials, Martin brings a strong commitment to player development, golf instruction, and the traditions of etiquette and sportsmanship that are central to the game. His coaching philosophy focuses on helping student-athletes set goals while building a culture rooted in integrity, accountability, and sound decision-making.

“My goal is to build a program where players improve their golf, strengthen their character, and leave prepared for future challenges on the course and in life. By emphasizing respect, equity, integrity, and purposeful goals, we can create a team that competes with determination and proudly represents West Liberty-Salem.”

— J.J. Martin

Athletic Director Morgan Sullivan said Martin’s approach aligns well with the values of Tiger athletics.

“We are excited to welcome J.J. to the leadership of our girls golf program. His passion for teaching the game, commitment to student-athlete development, and focus on building strong young people align perfectly with the values of WL-S athletics.”

On the boys side, Holloway brings more than a decade of high school golf coaching experience to West Liberty-Salem. He previously coached boys golf at Pioneer High School in Woodland, California, from 2011 to 2019 and also led the school’s girls golf program from 2013 to 2016. Most recently, he served as Urbana High School’s boys golf coach during the 2024 season.

A lifelong golfer, Holloway earned four varsity letters in high school before continuing his athletic career as a football player at the University of California, Davis. He has remained an avid golfer throughout his life, achieving a low handicap of 1.7 and consistently maintaining a single-digit handicap.

“We are excited to welcome Josh to the West Liberty-Salem athletic family. His extensive coaching experience, knowledge of the game, and commitment to developing student-athletes make him an outstanding fit for our program.”
