Tuesday night, participants in the Behind the Badge Sheriff’s Citizens Academy gathered for their Week 5 session, focusing on the critical topic of the use of force in law enforcement.
During the session, attendees learned about the specific circumstances under which deputies may use weapons and the various types of force that can be applied in different situations. The discussion provided valuable insights into the decision-making processes that law enforcement officers undergo in high-pressure scenarios.
The evening included hands-on training, where participants had the opportunity to use tasers and practice self-defense techniques. Additionally, a situational training simulator was set up, allowing attendees to engage in realistic scenarios that deputies might face in the field.

The session emphasized the importance of understanding the protocols and guidelines that govern the use of force, fostering a deeper appreciation for the challenges faced by law enforcement officers in the line of duty.
As the academy continues, participants are gaining valuable knowledge and skills that enhance community relations and promote transparency between law enforcement and citizens. The program is designed to educate and empower the public while building trust within the community.
