Police were called to West Chillicothe Avenue Monday night for help in a report of domestic violence.
When they arrived, officers found Jared Greenbaum, 37, of Bellefontaine had been in an altercation with his father over the use of a cigarette lighter.
Greenbaum admitted that he got upset when his father denied him the use of a lighter and shoved the victim off their porch.
He proceeded to place his elbow onto his father’s throat until his sister convinced him to stop.
Greenbaum has a history of violence.
He was recently released from a treatment center where he was placed after being arrested for disorderly conduct and making threats to customers at the post office in Bellefontaine in August.
Greenbaum was charged with domestic violence and lodged in the Logan County Jail.
