The Bellefontaine Police Department is investigating after a city resident reported losing $145,000 in an apparent scam.
According to a police report, officers were called to a residence within the city earlier this week after receiving a report of possible fraud.
The victim told officers they had mailed three separate checks totaling $145,000 to an unknown suspect in New York.
Police have not released additional details about the circumstances of the scam or whether any suspects have been identified.
The investigation remains ongoing.
