Bellefontaine Police are warning residents after a local woman reported being scammed out of hundreds of dollars in a fraudulent online vehicle sale.

According to the Bellefontaine Police Department, officers were called to an apartment on Lakewood Drive, where they spoke with the victim.

The woman told officers she had found an advertisement on Facebook for a 2016 Porsche SUV listed for just $900, including delivery.

She said she began communicating with a man on Facebook Messenger who identified himself as “Roger Crumbley.”

Police say the suspect requested payment in the form of Apple gift cards.

The victim purchased three separate cards totaling $900—one for $100, one for $300, and one for $500—and provided the information to the suspect.

The funds were later confirmed to have been used.

Officers were able to review the Facebook account and quickly determined it to be fraudulent.

The account also referenced a website, sandstowingandautosales.com, which is believed to be part of the scam.

The victim also told police she had shared her phone number and email address with the suspect.

Officers advised her to immediately change her email password and monitor her accounts for any suspicious activity.

Police remind residents to be cautious when making purchases online, especially when deals appear too good to be true.

They also warn against sending payment through gift cards, as this is a common tactic used by scammers.

The investigation remains ongoing.
