A unique Memorial Day weekend tradition will return to Indian Lake on Saturday as Saint Mary of the Woods Catholic Church hosts the 2nd Annual Blessing of the Boats.

The family-friendly event will take place at Sandy Beach Harbor in Russells Point and will feature music, food, prayers, and a special blessing for boaters ahead of the summer season.

Activities begin at 11 a.m. with the Blessing of the Sailboats at the Indian Lake Yacht Club.

Music, hot dogs, and a flag turn-in ceremony will also be held at Sandy Beach Harbor.

At 11:45 a.m., organizers will host an “Honor a Vet” tribute at the harbor.

The main Blessing of the Boats ceremony will begin at noon with an opening prayer, followed by boats receiving blessings as they travel north out of the harbor between noon and 12:30 p.m.

The event will take place near the Sandy Beach Bridge Harbor across from the Donut Shop in Russells Point.

Organizers say all are welcome to attend and encourage visitors to bring a chair and enjoy the festivities.
