A Mechanicsburg man is facing several charges after a late-night report of a possibly intoxicated driver.
According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called around 10:00 p.m. Friday to the area of State Route 559 and State Route 287 after a caller reported that 22-year-old Ayden Scott may have been driving under the influence.
The caller told dispatch Scott was on probation and had sounded intoxicated before leaving a residence.
They went on to provide updates, telling authorities Scott was traveling on Township Road 151 and later County Road 29, allegedly reaching speeds between 70 and 100 miles per hour before stopping near Township Road 45.
Deputies found a white Ford Explorer parked along County Road 29.
As they approached, they noticed the vehicle’s headlights turn off, then Scott exited the passenger side of the vehicle.
He claimed he was waiting for someone to return with fuel.
While speaking with Scott, deputies noticed that he showed several signs of impairment.
A records check also showed Scott’s driver’s license was suspended.
Scott initially gave conflicting statements about who had been driving the vehicle and how long it had been stopped.
Deputies later spoke with individuals connected to the situation, who said Scott had recently left a residence and was believed to be en route to pick someone up.
Scott then failed field sobriety tests, was taken into custody, and transported to the Logan County Jail.
At the jail, Scott submitted to a breath test, which registered a blood alcohol concentration of 0.151, nearly two times the legal limit.
He was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI) and cited for an additional OVI count and two counts of driving under suspension.
