Monday afternoon, emergency personnel were called to 1008 Fall Ridge Court in Bellefontaine to assist a man in need of immediate medical attention.

Just before 1 PM, officers from the Bellefontaine Police Department and personnel from the Bellefontaine Fire Department responded to reports that a person may be trapped or pinned.

Upon arrival, officers found a male, later identified as Matthew Clark, 37, of Grove City, lying on the ground partially beneath a flatbed truck.

His lower body was trapped between the truck’s axles, and his upper body was pinned under a stack of drywall supported by a boom crane attached to the truck.

Despite efforts to extricate him safely, Clark was unresponsive and showing signs of distress.

Officers quickly moved him to a safe area just as emergency medical services arrived.

Fire personnel called for a medical helicopter, but due to his condition, Clark was instead transported to Mary Rutan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Local law enforcement and the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), continue to investigate the incident.

Clark, along with two other men, were unloading drywall for the construction project. They are employed by United Building Materials out of Columbus.

It was reported that Clark was the only certified operator for the boom lift used in the unloading process.

An autopsy report from the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office is pending.
