A Bellefontaine student is facing a disorderly conduct charge after police say he discharged pepper spray on a school bus Sunday morning.
According to a report from the Bellefontaine Police Department, officers were dispatched around 7:05 a.m. on Monday to the 100 block of South Detroit Street after receiving reports that a child had used pepper spray on a school bus.
When officers arrived, they found an empty school bus and approximately 50 people gathered nearby.
The bus driver told police that a student had sprayed another child on the forearm with pepper spray.
The driver said the student then handed the pepper spray canister to her, and she later turned it over to officers.
Police spoke with both students, who reportedly said they were curious about the pepper spray and wanted to experience what it felt like.
According to the report, the student told officers he did not intend to harm anyone.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and evaluated all 45 passengers on the bus.
No serious injuries were reported.
Officers later contacted the child’s mother by phone and informed her that he would be charged with disorderly conduct.
