A Bellefontaine woman was arrested for OVI early Saturday morning after a crash on U.S. 68 north of Bellefontaine.

According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received a crash notification just after 1:00 a.m. in the 4000 block of U.S. 68.

The driver, 49-year-old Shanelle Cook, told dispatchers she had hit a deer and ended up off the roadway.

Dispatchers noted Cook sounded “discombobulated” during the call.

Deputies found the vehicle off the roadway and determined it had also hit a fence and mailbox on the opposite side of the highway.

Investigators reported Cook showed several signs of intoxication.

She told deputies she swerved to avoid a deer and admitted she had been drinking after leaving Belle Center.

According to the report, Cook agreed to field sobriety tests and failed.

Deputies said Cook continued apologizing during the investigation and again admitted to drinking.

She was arrested and transported to the Logan County Jail, where she agreed to provide a breath sample.

According to the report, the test showed a blood-alcohol concentration of .179 — more than twice the legal limit.

Cook’s driver’s license was seized, and she was cited for OVI and failure to control.
