Over the weekend, Logan County Sheriff’s Deputies handled multiple arrests in Lakeview.
Disturbance at Lakeside RV Park
On Saturday night, a disturbance at Lakeside RV Park resulted in the arrest of Joseph Campbell, 23, of New Carlisle. Deputies responded to a call just before 11 PM about Campbell jumping on a car hood while his girlfriend attempted to leave. Officers found him at Old Field Beach, where he admitted to arguing but denied any physical violence.
As the investigation unfolded, inconsistencies arose regarding his girlfriend’s name. Initially, Campbell referred to her as Madalyn but later corrected it to Madison, causing confusion with his mother, Stacy Johnson, 47, of New Carlisle., who claimed she didn’t know Madison’s whereabouts.
Just after midnight, another call reported a fight involving Campbell at the RV park. Officers detained Shawn Gruber, 55, of Lima, who had blood on his face. Witnesses indicated that Gruber confronted Campbell, leading to a physical altercation. While Campbell claimed he was attacked, witnesses confirmed he was the aggressor.
Both Campbell and Gruber received medical treatment, and Campbell was arrested on assault charges. Johnson was also arrested for obstructing the investigation. Both were lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Gruber requested Campbell be banned from the RV park, and Campbell was warned that returning could result in further arrest.
Domestic Violence Incident
On Friday evening, a domestic violence incident on Horseshoe Channel led to the arrest of Donald Eyler, 60, of Tipp City, after a confrontation with his wife. Deputies arrived just before 8 PM and found Donald reporting a heated argument. He stated his wife had been drinking heavily, became aggressive, and physically assaulted him. He had a red mark on his cheek and admitted to pushing her away.
The victim was discovered at a neighbor’s house, visibly upset. She reported that Donald grabbed her by the neck, pushed her into a door, and took her phone to prevent her from calling 9-1-1. Despite being intoxicated, she provided a clear account of the events and had visible injuries.
Donald claimed he was acting in self-defense and admitted to taking her phone. He was arrested for domestic violence and disrupting public services. Donald was taken to Logan County Jail.
