A 44-year-old Bellefontaine man was cited for OVI after being stopped on U.S. 33 near State Route 117 Sunday evening.
According to the report, deputies caught William Oliver traveling westbound at 68 miles per hour in the posted 55-mile-per-hour speed limit around 6:20 p.m.
Deputies initiated a traffic stop and reported smelling the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle and said Oliver’s speech was slurred.
A bottle of vodka was also seen in the backseat, which Oliver confirmed contained vodka.
Oliver told deputies he had drunk at least two one-ounce shots of vodka about two hours before the stop, but said he did not know the exact number of drinks he had consumed.
Oliver agreed to perform field sobriety tests, which he failed.
He was taken to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, where he agreed to a breath test.
The test resulted in a reading of 0.042, which is below the legal limit.
Regardless of the test, Oliver was issued citations for OVI and speeding and was released to a sober driver.
