Downtown Bellefontaine will celebrate Dolly Parton while raising money to put books in the hands of Logan County children.
The Dollar for Dolly event will be held Friday, September 25, and Saturday, September 26, from noon to 6 p.m. at The Hanger Boutique at 120 North Main Street.
For a donation of one dollar or more, visitors can take a Dolly Parton-inspired photo inside a pink phone booth featuring a Dolly cutout, wigs, cowboy hats, and other props.
All donations will support Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Logan County, administered locally by the United Way of Logan County.
The event begins on September 25, which has been officially proclaimed Dolly Parton Day in Ohio by Governor Mike DeWine.
The Imagination Library provides participating children with a free, age-appropriate book every month from enrollment until their fifth birthday.
The United Way of Logan County brought the program to the community in 2016, with the first local books mailed in January 2017.
More than 1,900 Logan County preschoolers are currently enrolled and receive a free book each month.
A local study found that children who received Imagination Library books scored 21 percent higher on Kindergarten Readiness Assessments than children who did not participate.
Organizers say Dollar for Dolly gives residents a simple way to support early childhood literacy — donate a dollar, take a photo, and help put more books into the hands of local children.
