A Heat Advisory is in effect from noon today until 8 PM Wednesday, with forecasts predicting a Heat Index that could climb to 102 degrees.

The advisory warns of dangerous conditions due to extreme heat and high humidity.

Officials urge residents to take the following precautions:

  • Hydrate Frequently: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated. Avoid alcohol and caffeine, which can contribute to dehydration.
  • Seek Shade: Stay indoors in air-conditioned spaces whenever possible. If you must go outside, try to limit your exposure and stay in shaded areas.
  • Dress Appropriately: Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing to help your body cool down. Avoid dark colors that can absorb more heat.
  • Limit Activity: Reduce strenuous activities and exercise to the cooler parts of the day, such as early morning or late evening.
  • Watch for Symptoms: Be alert for signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, including dizziness, rapid heartbeat, heavy sweating, and nausea. Seek medical attention immediately if symptoms occur.

Residents are also encouraged to check on vulnerable family members, friends, and neighbors, especially those without air conditioning or those who may be more susceptible to heat-related illnesses.

Stay cool and stay safe during this extreme heat wave.
