During their regular meeting Wednesday night, members of the Indian Lake Board of Education accepted donations, recognized retirements, and discussed the district’s financial outlook.

To kick off the meeting, Vicky Boots and Sharon DeVault from the Indian Lake Watershed Project presented Superintendent Dr. Rob Underwood with a generous $5,000 donation to the Indian Lake Music Department.

The funds were raised through the annual Nashville Hitmakers Concert, a successful country music event that has run for 13 years.

However, following the recent passing of event coordinator Sandy Helgeson, there is uncertainty about the future of the concert.

Dr. Underwood expressed gratitude for their years of support.

IL Director of Special Education Services, Krystal Loy, also submitted her annual Special Education and Title One report.

Of the district’s 1,328 students, 341 (more than 25%) are served by her team through Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or 504 education plans.

The board members also accepted the upcoming retirement of Kris Crockett, a long-time teacher at Indian Lake Elementary School.

Crockett will retire in May after nearly 34 years of service to the district.

In addition, the board held an executive session to interview candidates for the position of District Treasurer, following the planned retirement of Coleen Reprogle.

The board hopes to hire a qualified candidate who can work alongside Reprogle for a few months before her retirement this summer.

The Indian Lake Board of Education’s next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 19th, at 6:30 p.m. in the Board Office.
