Indian Lake Residents Asked to Separate Debris

SHARE NOW

The Ohio National Guard, Ohio Department of Transportation, and the Emergency Management Agency have new guidelines about how tornado debris is handled.

Indian Lake Residents are asked to separate all debris and place piles at the edge of their property.

Please separate debris into the six categories shown below:

  • Normal Household Trash- Normal household trash and bagged debris of any kind will not be picked up with debris as part of this program. You should continue to follow your normal garbage removal schedule.
  • Vegetative Debris- Leaves (do not put in bags) logs, plants, and tree branches.
  • Construction and Demolition Debris- Building materials, carpet, drywall, furniture, lumber, mattresses, and plumbing.
  • Appliances and White Goods- Air conditioners, dishwashers, freezers, refrigerators, stoves, washers and dryers, and water heaters.
  • Electronics- Computers, radios, stereos, televisions, and other devices with a cord.
  • Household Hazardous Waste- Cleaning supplies, batteries, lawn chemicals, oils, oil-based paints and stains, and pesticides.

Other tips include:

  • Do not stack or lean- Placing debris near or on trees, poles or other structures makes removal difficult. This includes fire, hydrants, and meters.
  • Unsure where to place debris? If you don’t have a sidewalk, ditch, or utility line in front of your house, place debris at the edge of your property before the curb.
  • The NO PICK-UP ZONE will include any debris placed from the sidewalk toward your property.
  • Place debris piles as close to the roadway BUT not in it.

OR if you wish to self-dispose, dump sorted loads of recyclables or woody debris to an approved disposal site:

  • LOCATION: Cherokee Run Landfill: 2946 US 68 N. All incoming loads must be tarped.
TYPES OF DEBRIS ACCEPTED: Municipal Waste, Household Trash, Solid Waste.
TIMES: Debris must be to the scale house by 4:30 PM.
  • LOCATION: D&J Scrap Metal: 621 Plumvalley, Bellefontaine
TYPES OF DEBRIS ACCEPTED: Self-haul scrap metal.
    TIMES: 8 AM – 5 PM

Wood debris (trees, limbs, branches, and other woody debris) can be taken to the shred site at the helipad in Russells Point and at Emil Davis Park in Lakeview.
