Officers from the Bellefontaine Police Department stopped Jon Payton early Monday morning for having incorrect plates on his vehicle.
When officers ran the plates, they came back to a maroon Ford but the vehicle was dark green.
Seeing several unopened cans of beer in the front seat of Payton’s car, officers asked if there was anything illegal in the car.
He admitted that there was marijuana and began to fumble for it.
Payton was asked to step out to perform several field sobriety tests, which he passed.
When the vehicle was searched, an open and mostly full beer can was found in the back seat, along with marijuana and a glass pipe in the front seat.
He was issued a citation for Possession of Drugs, Driving Under FRA Suspension, and Open Container.
Payton was released from the scene to his wife.
