Local Housing Update Shows Growth; Rookie Firefighter Joins Bellefontaine

The Bellefontaine City Council met in regular session Tuesday.

Mayor Ben Stahler reported to the council the 2023 Housing Update:

  • Campbell Landing Apartments, 52 units, completed in 2021
  • Eagles Nest Condos, 34 units built, completed in 2022
  • Christina Drive Apartments, Stone Key Corporation, Kristina Drive
    56 one-bedroom apartments are currently under construction, water accounts are set up for all units
  • Maris Park (approximately 200 homes)
    Phase #1, 14 lots, sold (Monticello- developer)
    Phase #2, 14 homes, beginning stages (Miranda Homes- developer)
  • Pine Brook Estates 14 lots (11 sold, 1 pending, 2 for sale)
    8 units are on track to be complete by year’s end
  • Willows End Condos (Allen Woods) 16 homes built (will be up to 30 homes)
  • Ludlow Ridge (Preliminary plat has been approved by planning commission 6/2023)
    87 single homes, 97 patio homes, 138 townhomes
  • Tod Johnson project (near Lake Addition) was approved by City Planning Commission for annexation as R-3C and will house 60 to 80 condos
  • Sloan Boulevard has had several meetings with plan development, for residential/ high-end apartment rentals

Mayor Stahler also swore in a new Bellefontaine Firefighter. Tyler Overman, 22 of Troy, is Bellefontaine’s newest rookie. Overman will begin with the department on August 1st.

 

City Council went on to approve the following ordinances unanimously:

Ordinances for 1st reading:

  • An ordinance making supplemental appropriations and amending the permanent appropriations ordinance for purposes of park department repairs and water department capital equipment and declaring an emergency.
  • An ordinance amending the clerical workers pay scale to add the permanent part-time evidence room manager/crime scene position to said scale.
  • An ordinance amending the temporary part-time evidence room manager/crime scene position to a permanent position.
  • An ordinance repealing section 1185.26 of the planning and zoning code of the codified ordinances of the city of Bellefontaine, Ohio.
  • An ordinance amending the annexation by Levan Investments LLC to correctly identify the acreage and declare an emergency.

Ordinances for 1st and final reading/adopted:

  • An ordinance authorizing the service-safety director to seek proposals and/or advertise for bids and enter into a contract with the selected contractor and/or bidders for the fire department roof repairs and declaring an emergency.
  • An ordinance authorizing the service-safety director to seek proposals and/or advertise for bids and enter into a contract with the selected contractor and/or bidders for the fire department apron repairs and declaring an emergency.

Ordinances for 3rd reading/adopted:

  • An ordinance to approve, adopt and enact the 2023 replacement pages to the codified ordinances of the City of Bellefontaine.

Bellefontaine Police Chief Chris Marlow reminded the council that the department is hosting the annual Community Safety Event on Saturday, August 19th from 3 PM – 5 PM at Southview Park. The event is free to the public and includes K9 Teams, public safety vehicles, aviation, motorcycle & mounted units, music, games, and much more. The K9 Chicken Fundraiser will also be on site.

The Bellefontaine City Council is set to meet again on Tuesday, August 8th at 7:30 PM in council chambers.
