Logan, Champaign Counties receive state demolition grants

Logan and Champaign counties are among 73 counties receiving state funding to remove blighted and unsafe buildings through Ohio’s Building Demolition and Site Revitalization Program.

Governor Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik announced $11.9 million in grants this week to help communities demolish deteriorating residential and commercial structures and prepare the properties for future redevelopment.

The program, funded through Ohio’s operating budget, provides approximately $230,000 to each county.

To date, the initiative has invested more than $325 million in nearly 6,700 demolition projects across all 88 Ohio counties.

In Champaign County, the Champaign County Board of Commissioners received $230,000 to demolish a blighted property located at 604 East Main Street in St. Paris.

In Logan County, the Logan County Land Reutilization Corporation also received $230,000 to remove 13 blighted structures throughout the county.

Governor DeWine said removing long-vacant and unsafe buildings gives communities the opportunity to strengthen neighborhoods, attract new investment, and improve quality of life.

The Building Demolition and Site Revitalization Program is part of the Governor’s Ohio BUILDS Initiative, which supports projects focused on economic development and community revitalization, including demolition, brownfield redevelopment, water infrastructure, and broadband expansion.
