The Logan County Board of Developmental Disabilities (LCBDD) met Thursday evening.
To start the meeting, Superintendent, Krista Oldiges, updated the board on the DD Awareness Month activities.
A sensory-friendly movie event was held on March 2nd. Those who attended received free admission, popcorn, a drink, a sensory goodie bag, and a coloring book.
A Proclamation of DD Awareness Month will be held on March 14th at the County Commissioner’s office.
Inclusive coloring books and crayons were distributed to local school districts.
LCBDD’s Preschool, the Discovery Center, held a week of shaving cream skating at the end of February and celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday the first week of March.
Cat in the Hat, as well as Thing 1 and Thing 2, visited the classrooms.
The board went on to approve a donation to the West Liberty Lions Club for a universal changing table at the new accessible restroom in the park.
The board also reviewed and approved two contracts, six policies, and an updated Table of Organization.
LCBDD accepted the resignation of James Shouse, Head Cook, which will be effective on May 31, 2024.
Mr. Shouse has worked for the board for 26 years and will be greatly missed. The board wishes him the best as he enjoys retirement. Due to Mr. Shouse retiring, the board approved to end food services. The preschool will continue to provide pre-packaged snacks for their students.
The Community Recreation and Special Olympics Coordinators have been busy with many activities. Special Olympic bowlers participated in the Unified Bowling Tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Team Results:
- Joe VanVoorhis, Barry Warne, Frank Chatfield, and Chris Thompson took Gold
- Adam Abshire, Mindy Young, Bill Bialecki, and Trevor Young took Bronze
The teams also competed in the Doubles Competition.
- Adam Abshire and Trevor Young were powerhouses and received gold medals
- Bill Bialecki and Mindy Young brought home Bronze medals
- Frank Chatfield and Barry Warne earned fourth place
- Joe VanVoorhis and Chris Thompson placed sixth
The Logan County Brave cheerleaders competed at the State Indoor Special Olympics Games at Bowling Green University in the Introductory Non-Mount Non-Tumble Division and placed 1st.
A Community Basketball Game between the Logan County Braves and local celebrities will be held on March 26 at 5:30 PM at the Bellefontaine Middle School.
Donations will be accepted at the door. There will be concessions and a 50/50 raffle. Proceeds will go to making Logan County playgrounds accessible to all.
The Logan County Board of DD Foundation is currently holding its Annual Flower Sale.
The last day to order flowers will be Monday, April 8th. Orders will be available for pick up on Friday, May 10th from 10 AM – 6 PM at the Discovery Center.
Board meetings are typically held the first Thursday of each month at 5:30 PM at 1973 St. Rt. 47 West, Bellefontaine.
