Cancer Society Hosts Paint Loco Pink Event

October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and in support of this vital cause, the Logan County Cancer Society held its annual Paint LoCo Pink event at the historic Holland Theater Thursday night.

The event brought together community members to raise awareness and funds for those affected by breast cancer.

Survivor Melinda Knueve shared her poignant journey with attendees, emphasizing the importance of early detection and support during treatment. “Every moment counts, and it’s crucial to lean on your loved ones and community. Don’t hesitate to reach out for help,” she advised, inspiring many in the audience. She has this advice for those who are fighting a cancer battle:

The Logan County Commissioners, along with Bellefontaine Mayor, Dave Crissman, declared October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month at the event.

WHEREAS, HOPE is a crucial factor in the overall well-being of patients during their breast cancer journey, and

WHEREAS, patients and their families often feel lost, afraid, and alone when navigating breast cancer, and

WHEREAS, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, and

WHEREAS, the impact of breast cancer is wide-ranging, affecting individuals and society as a whole, here in our community, throughout the United States and around the world, and

WHEREAS, in 2023, over 280,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer were diagnosed in people in the U.S., and

WHEREAS, the opportunity and privilege exist for all in the community to come together to rise up and support people who have been impacted by breast cancer, and

WHEREAS, the month of October is recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease, and

WHEREAS the City of Bellefontaine and the County of Logan continue to support the efforts of the Logan County Cancer Society, The American Cancer Society, and other agencies who wage this war every day to make a difference in the lives of those affected by Breast Cancer.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that the Mayor of the City of Bellefontaine and the Logan County Commissioners do hereby recognize October 2024 as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We join with other communities across Ohio and the Nation to support any and all efforts to support families and individuals affected by breast cancer and share the worthy goals of this month-long observance. It is our hope that research and development will continue to find answers in this arena, as well.

The evening was filled with community spirit, and uplifting stories, reinforcing the message of hope and resilience. The Logan County Cancer Society continues to play an essential role in supporting those affected by cancer, ensuring no one faces their battle alone.
