The Logan County Commissioners recognized local veteran Jerry Culp during a ceremony Thursday morning, honoring his service, leadership, and contributions to the community.

Commissioner Joe Antram opened the presentation by highlighting the county’s ongoing program that recognizes citizens monthly for their dedication and service.

Commissioner Mike Yoder led attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance before the recognition began.

Culp was named the honoree for March 2026.

A U.S. Navy veteran, he served on active duty from 1962 to 1966 before continuing his service in the Naval Reserve for two additional years.

During his time in the military, he specialized in diesel mechanics.

His military honors include the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the First Good Conduct Medal, among other commendations.

A lifelong Logan County resident, Culp grew up near Bellefontaine and graduated from Bellefontaine High School in 1961.

He currently resides just outside the city.

Family and guests in attendance included his wife, Barb Culp, along with several relatives and friends who gathered to celebrate the recognition.

As part of the ceremony, Commissioner Yoder presented a flag that had been flown above the Logan County Courthouse in Culp’s honor for the month of March.

Representatives from the Logan County Veterans Office were also present, along with several county officials, showing support and appreciation for Culp’s service.

Culp had these comments, among many other tales, to say during the ceremony:

The commissioners’ monthly recognition program continues to spotlight individuals who have made a lasting impact on Logan County through service, leadership, and community involvement.
